... LIGHT HOUSE
The XS House in Massachusetts features a set
of three rotated boxes with skylights, giving
rooms natural light and privacy

'Chaewon Kim and Beat Schenk of Uni Architects,
a small studio based in Cambridge,
Massachusetts, used boat-building plywood as
the siding material for a recent residential
structure...
The grain is broad and pronounced, creating the
appearance of a huge piece of furniture, and its
almost windowless facades intrigue and seduce.
Interior finishes are also kept simple, with each
level united by a pared-down wooden staircase
that threads through the space.'
Knock on Wood
With its sustainable,
mutable, characterful
qualities, it's no surprise
that a new generation of
architects can see the
wood for the trees
